Being an Introvert is Your Superpower!

This is me facilitating a panel on Black Women in Podcasting at She Podcasts Live in Atlanta, October 2019.

To my fellow introverts in the room who aspire to be podcasters, I need you to come a little closer. This message is for you. I know how challenging it can be to speak up in public spaces. I’ve been there too, hesitating, staying in my comfort zone, and convincing myself it was safer to remain unheard. But deep down, I knew I had stories, experiences, and ideas that could help others. By holding back, I was doing a disservice to myself and my personal and professional growth.

Trust me, I understand how overwhelming the thought of speaking up, being “out there,” and sharing yourself can feel. But if there’s something you feel called to say, something you know would make an impact, don’t let fear hold you back. I believe that the climate we’re living in today is evidence that we mustn’t be afraid to speak up.

Podcasting initially gave me the confidence to share my message without the intimidating spotlight of a live audience, allowing me to express myself in a space that felt safe. Over time, that confidence grew, empowering me to share my voice publicly. Here's what happened when I took the leap and put myself out there:

🎤 I learned to trust my unique voice. The more I shared, the more I realized that people valued my unique perspective as an introvert. Podcasting helped me embrace my quieter, thoughtful approach, and listeners responded to my authenticity.

💡 I embraced the idea that practice makes progress. With every episode, I felt more comfortable, gradually easing into the rhythm of speaking and sharing. Podcasting taught me that confidence grows with practice.

🌱 I reflected on my growth. Looking back on my journey, I’m amazed at how far I’ve come. Podcasting has not only made me a more confident speaker, but it’s also allowed me to grow personally and professionally.

So, here’s my advice to you: Do it afraid. Your voice deserves to be heard, and podcasting is the perfect platform to share it authentically, without pressure. Your unique perspective, as an introvert, is exactly what many listeners are searching for—a real, thoughtful voice that offers something meaningful. Take that first step, and remember, confidence grows with every episode, every conversation, and every chance to proudly and unapologetically let people know who you are and what you stand for. Your voice is powerful, and it’s time to let it be heard.
